Grassington Singers

Chris was born in Leeds, and joined his first church choir at the age of seven. He studied Music at the University of Sussex in Brighton and after nine years working as an organist and choir director in the area he took up the Organ Scholarship at Chichester Cathedral in 1997-1998, later becoming Acting Assistant Organist at Ripon Cathedral. After spending some years as an organist in Norway Chris returned to the UK in 2007 as Assistant Organist at Newport Cathedral, and in February 2010 he moved back to Yorkshire to pursue a career as a freelance musician. Chris has toured with choirs both as MD and accompanist and has given concerts in the USA and Europe. He is married to Camilla and they have a young son, Benjamin.

Chris has taken over from Nicholas Hewlett whom we welcomed as our Musical Director in May 2009.

Nicholas introduced us to a number of different types of music, among them sprituals, contemporary pieces, and Bob Chilcott's Little Jazz Mass. Unfortunately, Nicholas had to leave us due to ill health, but we hope he will continue to keep an association with us.

Prior to Nicholas, we were very lucky to secure the services of Tim Knight to tide us over.

Tim is an enthusiastic and dynamic conductor, as sure as eggs are eggs - current members will understand what is meant by this!!
We have said goodbye to Tim, but we think we may not have seen the last of him............
